Investment Opportunities in Metallic Minerals in Yemen
Information from previous projects and mineral exploration and prospecting results indicates the presence of significant mineral deposits of gold, lead, zinc, copper, silver, nickel, iron, and titanium. Previous studies have shown that the geological conditions and other factors in Yemen are somewhat consistent with the ideal models recorded regionally and globally. Based on the geological studies conducted, investment opportunities in metal minerals in Yemen have been identified in several areas, such as gold, copper-nickel-platinum, zinc-lead, iron-titanium, tungsten, tin, radioactive elements, and rare earth minerals. The following is a summary of these opportunities:
1- Gold
Gold is found associated with deposits of other metallic minerals, such as copper and arsenopyrite, in disseminated form in mineralized rocks and in the gaps of veins in the form of compressed lenses in volcanic and metamorphic sedimentary rocks, and in amphibolite rocks of the Precambrian basement rocks. Gold is also found in Tertiary volcanic rocks. The results of exploratory studies, which included geological and geochemical surveys, have indicated the presence of more than 50 sites containing gold and silver. The following are the most important gold blocks in Yemen:
First: Areas open for investment:
Preliminary geological and geochemical exploratory studies of a number of samples have shown encouraging results for the presence of gold, the most important of which are the following areas:
1- Rabaq - Al-Namasah - Al-Jawf Governorate: 5.3 grams of gold/ton
2- Al-Matmah - Al-Jawf Governorate: 5.4 grams of gold/ton

2- Zinc and Lead Minerals
Zinc and lead mineralizations are found in Yemen within the rocks of the Amran limestone group (Jurassic) associated with the Ramlat al-Saba'atin depression. They occur in the form of layers, cracks, and pockets in the dolomite rocks. These mineralizations are also found within dolomite and limestone rocks dating back to the Paleocene. The following are the most important zinc and lead blocks in Yemen:
First: Areas open for investment:
Preliminary geological and geochemical exploration studies have shown encouraging results for a number of samples regarding the presence of zinc, lead, and silver, the most important of which are the areas The following:
1. Dhibin - Amran Governorate: 16% zinc.
2. Bran - Al-Kool - Sana'a: 16.5% zinc, 6.5% lead.
3. Haylan - Ma'rib Governorate: 4.5% zinc, 4 grams of silver/ton.

Copper, nickel, and cobalt mineralizations are widespread in Yemen within Precambrian basic and ultrabasic rocks (and intrusive rocks). Exploratory studies have indicated the presence of several island arcs composed of belts of volcanic sedimentary rocks containing features that indicate the presence of an environment suitable for hosting copper, nickel, and cobalt minerals. The following are the most important copper, nickel, and platinum group sites:

Geology of Yemen
Introduction to the Geology of Yemen
Interest in the geology of Yemen began a long time ago, with the first study on the geology of Yemen appearing in 1912 by Botz. The first geological column of rock strata in Yemen was prepared in 1930 (Lamar et al.).
The first serious and intensive geological study of the northern governorates was conducted by Geoffrey G. Giewens between 1960 and 1966. The first comprehensive geological column of rock strata in these governorates, from the Precambrian to the Quaternary, was prepared.
The first preliminary geological map of the northern governorates, at a scale of 1:50,000, was prepared by Grolier and Overstreet between 1975 and 1978.
The first geological book on the geology of the northern governorates of the Republic of Yemen was published by El-Anbaawy. 1985a).
Detailed geological stratigraphic studies were conducted by individual researchers or by the Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Authority until the publication of the Global Stratigraphic Index in 1998, which is currently the most widely used stratigraphic reference.
The Republic of Yemen covers rocks ranging in age from the Precambrian to the modern era. The Precambrian rocks in the Al Bayda region date back to the Lower Proterozoic. Studies using Sm-Nd dating have shown that the gneisses in this region are approximately 2.9 billion years old.
The geology of Yemen is also linked to the regional structure of the Arabian Plate, with its various stages of development, and is characterized by regional specificities during successive geological eras, from the Lower Proterozoic to the present. It is important to take into account that:
Therefore, the geology of Yemen can be briefly divided into:
1- Basement rocks. (Precambrian). Lower Proterozoic.
2- Sediment cover.
- Subcambrian Paleozoic rocks.
- Mesozoic rocks.
- Chinenzoic rocks.
3- Volcanic rocks
- Yemen tuffs (YTS)
- Yemen volcanoes (YVS)
4- Quaternary sediments
- Ancient coastal sediments
- Fluvial, valley, and marine sediments.

Gas
Natural gas discovery in Yemen began concurrently with oil exploration in 1984 in Block (18) - the Ma'rib/Al-Jawf Oil Basin - in both associated and dry forms. With the continuation of exploration operations in many sectors and the expansion of field development, energy capabilities have been strengthened by the growth of oil and gas reserves in numerous sectors across the country. The estimated gas reserves discovered in the producing oil sectors as of June 2006 were approximately 17.026 trillion cubic feet.
Given the importance of gas and its role in developing the national economy through the development of local industries, domestic and service uses, and securing financial resources to achieve economic and social development in Yemen, the Ministry of Oil and Minerals has made continuous efforts to develop the gas sector.
The discovery of abundant gas reserves has led to consideration of increasing its exploitation. The Ministry of Oil and Minerals is working to encourage investment in this sector by establishing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production facilities and providing the necessary transportation equipment and devices. This is aimed at replacing traditional energy sources such as firewood, petroleum, and kerosene.
To optimize the exploitation of the abundant natural gas reserves, an agreement was signed in 1997 to implement the natural gas liquefaction and export project.
Considered one of only twenty similar projects worldwide, it is a major investment project and the first of its kind for a public-private partnership in Yemen. Its budget amounts to $7.3 billion. It is the largest single source of income for Yemen over the next 20 years, generating approximately $17 billion in government revenue. The company's shareholders include the Yemeni government, represented by the Yemen Gas Company (16.73%), the General Authority for Social Insurance and Pensions (5%), Total (39.62%), Hunt Oil (17.22%), SK Corporation (9.55%), Kogas (6%), and Hyundai (5.88%). The marketing of liquefied natural gas depended on obtaining a mix of sales between the Asian markets, which provide a good, fixed income, and the American markets, which provide more variable prices because they are more susceptible to changes due to their reliance on spot prices. Accordingly, agreements were signed to sell Yemeni liquefied gas in 2005 with each of: Kogas (2 million tons), Suez (2.5 million tons), and Total (2 million tons).
